Sajal Sarkar
Sajal Sarkar was born in Kolkata and received his Bachelor's degree in Painting from the Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata in 1989. He went on to complete his Master’s in Printmaking at The Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, in 1995. Sarkar's large diptych canvases juxtapose medium shape and form, exploring loss and individuality. He has had several solo shows and has participated in the Annual Exhibitions of the Mumbai Art Society and the Birla Academy of Art and Culture. His group shows included the International Print Biennale, Bhopal in 1997; "Contemporary Indian Art" at Y.B. Chavan Centre, Mumbai; and "Young Baroda" at Art Today, New Delhi. He was awarded the AIFACS Scholarship in 1990 and 1995; the Junior Fellowship, Department of Culture, Government of India in 1995-97; the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant from Canada in 1996; and the Bendre-Husain Scholarship from Mumbai Arts Society in 1996-97. He currently lives and works in Baroda.
